Only A Beer Away
If you were at one of our tastings this summer you know our answer to the question “When are you opening?” was often a list of what we were waiting on at the moment. But…a lot has happened since our last post in the early days of summer starting with getting our Brewers’ Notice – the first step in becoming a licensed brewery! Shout out to our TTB rep who made the entire process way less painful than we thought it would be. It felt amazing to check that milestone off on our list.
The building is starting to transform into a brewery instead of a vacant warehouse. The floors are being done as we write this post. As we wait for delivery of our brew house in the coming weeks we’ve acquired kegs thanks to our friends at Independent Brewing and some beautiful barrels from the team at Elder Pine. In the next couple weeks the front of the building will start to transform as well thanks to local artist Patrick Harnett. We stopped by his most recent work at the Pigtown Community Garden and we can’t wait to see what he does for Pickett Brewing.
At the tail end of August we poured our beer at Grow and Fortify’s Wanderland event at the Shrine of St. Anthony in Ellicott City. It was an amazing event filled with Maryland breweries, wineries, and distilleries. We enjoyed having everyone try out some new beers brewed on our pilot system including a golden berry ale, a pale ale, and a blackberry saison. Plus, we got to taste some delicious beers from the other vendors ourselves. Talking with beer drinkers, brewers, and brewery owners solidified why we dreamed of opening a brewery in the first place.
So we ended our summer on that high note and while we wait for the pieces to come together we’ll remember our motto that all good things are only a beer away.
